Community Spotlight - Friends of the Library

posted Apr 24, 2016, 5:43 PM by KJFP Radio

Our community spotlight this week is the Friends of the Library.  Friends of the Library works to promote the Hot Springs Public Library. Each year they sponsor three fundraisers to support the library: the Triathlon at Angostura Lake,  the library Halloween party, and the Book Barn which sells used/donated book from April to October (weather permitting).  The Book Barn is open twice each month (1st Saturday & 3rd Friday) and this year is beginning a series of 'specials' on the Friday sales for a different author each month to help clear some of book surplus.

The calendar for specials:  May 20th - Danielle Steele, June 17th - cookbooks, July 15th - Nora Roberts, August 19th - Tom Clancy, and September 16th - Clive Cussler.

The Friends of the Library are always looking for volunteers; so if you want to help shelve books in the book barn, assist with the triathlon, or become a member of the board please contact the Library at: 745-3151.

Community Spotlight - Keep Hot Springs Beautiful

posted Apr 18, 2016, 1:26 AM by KJFP Radio

This week on Community Spotlight Beth Spitzer sat down and talked with us about beautification and recycling opportunities in Hot Springs.  Keep Hot Springs Beautiful works with volunteers and other community groups to improve the appearance of our town.  They are currently entering their busy season with their annual membership drive as well as the approaching Great American Cleanup Day on May 7th.  Beth says they have all sections of the river 'adopted' by different community groups for clean-up. However they still have three of the street 'pods' that need adoption.

For more information on volunteering or on their garden tour to be held later this summer see their website at: www.keephotspringsbeautiful.org. or contact Beth at 745-4876 or spitfire@gwtc.net

Community Spotlight - Cultural Development Organzation

posted Apr 4, 2016, 12:55 AM by KJFP Radio   [ updated Apr 4, 2016, 12:56 AM ]

This week Community Spotlight is featuring the Cultural Development Organization.  This group grew out of a dream of Gloria Aspinall and others to promote fine arts, architectural arts and the cultural heritage of Hot Springs and Fall River County.  Their initial vision included an extensive business plan that has not yet been fully realized. In the last 10 years the CDO has put much of their effort toward their mural committee which has seen the completion of six murals throughout Hot Springs; the most recent being "Reflections" on the side of the Evans Plunge.

The CDO hasn't given up on their initial vision though.  They still hope to expand their efforts to use the fine arts to see vacant Hot Springs businesses put to use.  Those with ideas should contact the CDO board at cdohotsprings2006@gmail.com.  You can also speak to Diane at Black Hills Books and Treasurers or Dawn at the Hot Springs Public Library.  For more information about the murals and the CDO see their website at: www.hotspringscdo.org .
